7 Mobile PDP Fixes That Lift Add-to-Cart Rates on Shopify

Most Shopify traffic is mobile, and most product pages are still designed on a desktop monitor. Seven engineering-grade fixes, and how to decide which to test first.

Your product detail page is where money is made or lost, and on mobile it is where the most friction hides. Here are the seven fixes we reach for first. They are ordered by how often they turn out to be worth testing, not by a promised effect size — whether any of them wins on your store is a question for your traffic.

1. Sticky add-to-cart bar

On long PDPs, the buy button scrolls away within one swipe. A slim sticky bar with price and add-to-cart keeps purchase intent one thumb-tap away at all times. It is the change we reach for first on a long product page, because it removes a real and repeatable friction rather than a cosmetic one. Whether it wins on your store is a question for your traffic, not for a benchmark.

2. Trust signals above the fold

Star rating, review count, shipping promise, and returns policy, visible before any scrolling. Buyers on paid traffic do not know your brand; they price the risk in milliseconds. Do not make them hunt for reasons to trust you.

3. Clean variant selection

Dropdowns hide options and add taps. Replace them with visible swatch pills, show stock state per variant, and never let a buyer add an unavailable combination to the cart only to be told at checkout.

4. Compressed, reordered content hierarchy

Mobile order should be: gallery, price and rating, variant selection, add-to-cart, shipping and returns, then description and reviews. Anything the buyer must know to purchase belongs above anything you want them to read.

5. Faster gallery, fewer apps

Review carousels, size-guide popups, upsell widgets. Each app injects its own JavaScript into your most valuable page. We routinely find product pages loading dozens of scripts. Consolidating that into a clean Liquid implementation is usually the single largest available improvement to Largest Contentful Paint on a Shopify PDP — how large depends entirely on what is being removed, so measure your own before and after rather than trusting a range.

6. Urgency that is true

Real stock counts and real shipping cutoffs ("Order in 3h 12m for Friday delivery") convert. Fake countdown timers train repeat visitors to ignore you, and can breach consumer law in several markets.

7. One-tap path to a fast cart

The add-to-cart action should open a sub-200ms slide-out cart with a clear checkout button, not navigate to a separate page, and never a laggy app drawer. The PDP fix and the cart fix compound each other.

Do not redesign the whole PDP at once. Test fixes individually so you know what actually moved the number, that knowledge compounds across every future product page you build.
